Our consultants drive across Europe for “the most fun charity event in the travel industry”

We’re super proud to be sponsors of The Travel Trade Crusade and be part of the wacky and wild charity event which this week sees 18 decorated cars set off to race across Europe. 

With seven teams of our consultants getting behind the wheel to support their own chosen charities including we can’t wait to see the pictures!  

Teams will don fancy-dress and will make their way across six countries performing hilarious – and quite frankly embarrassing – challenges en route.

In what is the fifth Travel Trade Crusade, the aim is to raise more than £35,000, with NJT supporting The Pink Ribbon (breast cancer) Foundation and Reubens Retreat (supporting families with children who have life limiting conditions & through child bereavement). 

“This event demonstrates perfectly how fun, collaborative and generous the travel industry is,” said Not Just Travel co-founder Steve Witt. 

“It’s going to be a wild weekend with lots of laughs and memories made along the way.”

Philippa is entering with Dale and Becky. The trio of travel consultants met for the first time while in Mauritius last year on one of our Elite Experiences, our uber-luxury overseas training retreat that all our Elite franchisees are invited on as part of their franchise package. 

“We all clicked and became such close friends and supportive work colleagues,” said Philippa. 

“We all come from different parts of the UK but we’ve met up since on the company’s Seminar at Sea [our company cruise training at sea]. When we’re together we always have such a laugh.”

So what fancy dress and charity have they chosen? The trio are forming Dale Air to raise money for MND Association. Dale is the airline pilot, while Becky and Philippa are his trusted air hostesses!

“Sadly we all know of someone who is impacted by Motor Neurone Disease. Every penny we raise goes to fighting this horrific disease.” 

The expedition kicks off bright and early on July 5th from the Champagne region of Reims in France, with the cavalcade of cars heading south to the enchanting lakeside town of Thun, Switzerland.


Day two continues through Switzerland and Germany, the route showcases Europe’s stunning
scenery and thrilling roads, culminating in Merzig in the heart of Saarland, Germany.

The final stretch on day three, comprises a fantastic journey northwards, meandering through striking gorges and valleys, culminating in a surprise location in Northern Europe, known only to the organisers.

NJT consultant Kelly and her team will be completing the journey squeezed into a Fiat 500! They’ll be raising money for a little girl called Caitlin who has the rare, horribly debilitating and terminal Battens Disease. Kelly is hoping to raise £15,000.

“We’re thrilled to take on this challenge for such a worthy cause,” said Kelly. “Caitlin’s story has touched our hearts, and we’re committed to making a significant difference in her life and her family’s.”

Teams will score points for dressing up and decorating their cars – we’re expecting supercars, old bangers and everything in between (as long as they’re legally roadworthy!) 

Wacky challenges will be set along the way and will score additional points if completed.

Not Just Travel consultant Cath is going all out. She’s covering her car in stickers and the team will be changing their fancy dress costumes according to each country. 

They’ll be racing car drivers in France; characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in Switzerland (well, Cath is dressing up as a Golden Ticket!) and lederhosen will be the clothing of ‘choice’ as they traverse through Germany. 

Cath, who will be raising money for a local charity in Sheffield called ‘Mums in Need’ as well as the Alzheimer’s Society, said:

“I think I’ve lost the plot. I can’t wait.” 

The event has been described as the “most fun charity event in the UK travel industry” and is the brainchild of Sarah Archer of Beachcomber Tours and fellow organiser Nick Joyce. 

“The Travel Trade Crusade is not just about the drive – it’s also about the people you meet along the way and it’s an example of our industry operating at its big-hearted best,” said Sarah.
