Two of our consultants, Ben and Gilly, win prestigious travel awards

NJT consultant Ben wins Best Home-Based Agent of the Year at prestigious travel award ceremony!

Two of our consultants won prestigious awards last night at TTG’s prestigious Travel Industry Awards, widely considered as the Oscars of the travel industry.

Despite having never worked in travel when he joined us, Ben Casey was awarded Home-Based Agent Of The Year plus top award of the night, UK & Ireland Travel Agent of the Year 2023.

Gilly won Smarter, Better, Fairer Travel Agent of the Year 2023.

The prestigious awards showcase the best agents in the entire country and the fact that Ben only launched his agency four years ago in 2019 speaks volumes about his hard work and our support network which helps people new to travel skyrocket their business in a short time.

Like many of our franchisees, Ben launched his business while he kept working in his day-to-day job – regional marketing manager for McCarthy Stone, a retirement home developer – and thought it would take some time before he made the transition to working in travel full time.

“My plan was to let the travel business tick alongside my full-time job even though that involved long hours driving all over the UK.”

However, after training with us in July 2019, he became busier than he expected from day one.

In his first week of his business Ben had 10 potential clients, one of which resulted in an £8k booking to the Maldives. With an average 10 to 15 percent commission on every holiday sold, Ben knew there was the potential to scale up fast.

Business was so good that within three months of starting Ben couldn’t cope with demand. And when Ben and his husband Chris decided to start a family, he handed in his notice to concentrate on my travel business full time.

Working full time enabled Ben to focus on achieving our unique Money-Back Challenge where we refund new recruits their franchise fee if they sell enough holidays in the first 12 months. Despite losing over £250,000-worth of holiday bookings in 2020 due to the pandemic, Ben succeeded and got his business for free.

“The chance to build my very own travel business for free won me over from the start. No other franchise offered it and I could see lots of other agents had won it.

“The Travel Franchise gave me all the support, encouragement and guidance I needed to make a success of my new travel business, despite having never worked in travel before.

“It gave me a structure and well-trodden path to follow which gave me the focus I needed to win every penny of the money back.”

While some of our franchises prefer to keep their agency small, others like Ben look to scale up quickly and he employed two people, Sarah and Karen in 2020.

In 2022 and 2023, sales skyrocketed. In January this year he sold just over £329k-worth of holidays.

And Ben plans to expand the business further.

“Ideally I want to be at a point where I am working on the business and I’ve got travel consultants working for me that perhaps specialise in different areas such as cruising with me at the helm. I love it. It really is a job where you can make it what you want to be.”

Watch out to find out more about Gilly, who won Smarter, Better, Fairer, Agent of the Year in our blog next month.
