‘The sky’s the limit’ says franchisee Alan Witt
“Being a Travel Consultant puts you in charge of your own destiny.” – Former Thomas Cook employee says being a Not Just Travel consultant means ‘the sky’s the limit.’
Alan Witt, 53, worked for Thomas Cook for 25 years, following the collapse of the company last week, he said he hoped to inspire fellow Thomas Cook workers that there was a place for them in travel.
He said he had spoken to many former Thomas Cook colleagues and while they were feeling understandably ‘numb and devastated’ by the situation, he said there was hope. “The staff are probably thinking ‘what can I do? There’s not another job out there that I want to do.’ It’s trying to get across to them that they are great at what their job, and they can continue to do that. The customers they helped before are still there and they will want the help of a travel agent.”
In charge of your destiny
You can really be in charge of your own destiny. You can start making money for yourself instead of for other people. The sky’s the limit.
You’re motivated because it will be making a difference directly to you. You’re doing all the bits of the job that everyone loves but you’re not restricted in any way.”
Joining the Thomas Cook family at 18, Alan worked in Kent for 12 years, before relocating to Plymouth, where he’s lived for the past 13 years. It was his 25-year work anniversary that made him think about his career future. He said…
“I wanted to create something for myself and I thought if I don’t do it now, I won’t have the bottle to do it in ten years’ time. I thought let’s give it a go and I’ve never looked back.”
Following the collapse of the UK’s oldest travel group, Not Just Travel said they wanted to help staff. Co-founder Steve Witt said: “We know this has been a really stressful time for Thomas Cook staff and we wanted to help. We are launching a Homeworking Package which will help Thomas Cook employees get straight to work as independent travel consultants with Not Just Travel. They can enter an express training programme with far lower entry costs, allowing them to sell a holiday tomorrow with higher commissions, and get paid the next month. It will be a ready-made, fast retraining solution where they no longer have to worry about their future.”
