Why we took 110 consultants to Cyprus on a free mentorship retreat

Over 100 of our agents went on yet another overseas mentorship retreat in November, this time to Paphos, Cyprus, ‘The Island of Love’!

And while our travel consultants fell in love with this jewel of an island, they also returned home feeling even more passionate about their businesses. 

This is because our week-long mentorship retreats are all about growth, strategising, setting goals and networking. 

Consultant Martin, who invested in a franchise with us in the summer after early retirement and was invited on the trip, said:

“I loved it. It’s enabled me to come away with a lot more ‘oomph’ and some ideas of where to focus. It was great to meet other new franchisees that are on the same kind of journey as me, and to be able to speak to the other consultants who have been doing this job three or four years and to learn from some of their experiences. There were lots of different ways that people were succeeding so that was really exciting.”

Millionaire’s Retreat

Around 40 agents attended our Millionaire’s Retreat, a trip aimed at our newer franchisees to help them kickstart their business. 

Not Just Travel’s first Millionaire’s Retreat took place in 2013 in a luxury villa in Spain where co-founders Paul Harrison and Steve Witt coached some of the earliest franchisees how to become successful home-based travel consultants. 

The idea was to give new recruits the chance to learn from our ‘millionaire’ co-founders as well as some amazing travel experts and guest speakers. 

To date we have taken over 500 franchisees to some fantastic destinations and as there are typically several Millionaire Retreats per year, new franchisees usually get the opportunity to attend within a few months of joining.

The trip gives our co-founders the chance to meet new business owners in person and coach them how to build momentum in the first year.

While 98% of our agents are new to travel at the time of joining us, the majority have never run their own businesses either. So this is a perfect opportunity for them to cement the foundations of their business, hear from experienced agents, business mentors and specialist speakers. 

A few hours a day are spent in the classroom while evenings are kept free to enjoy the resort facilities, the destination and to get to know other attendees.

While these agents stayed at the deluxe Pioneer Beach Hotel,  the other 70 agents attended our International Mastery Retreat, hosted at the adjacent five-star Asimina Suites Hotel. Both hotels are operated by Constantinou Bros, one of our 45 Key Trade Partners.

International Mastery Retreat

Geared towards our more experienced franchisees, the International Mastery Retreat is a chance for agents to take stock, step away from the day-to-day operations and look at setting their long-term goals. The aim is to propel their businesses to the next level.

Every agent attended conference sessions and workshops, led by co-founder Steve Witt, and other team members including our social media manager Amy-Louise Weitz, and business development manager Paula Barker who has years of experience in travel.

But it wasn’t all work. Our agents were wined and dined and spent evenings sipping cocktails and making friends and discussing business. Plus, there was ample time to explore the island and take in the sights.

“We also had a great trip on the last day to the Troodos mountains and had a wonderful lunch in a taverna. No tourists, just all locals. And the food just kept coming and coming and coming. It was a wonderful experience,” said Martin.
